Since its inception, the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism has been reaping fruit and it has now become a role model for sub-regional cooperation. This work takes the LMC mechanism as an example, considering the value chain of the textile and apparel industry in order to study the cooperation work carried out on economic development and production capacity by the six countries located along the Lancang-Mekong River. This project has been developed under the direction of a core team from the Institute of World Economics and Politics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, in collaboration with numerous research institutions from the other five member countries along the Lancang-Mekong route. The work has essentially been structured around two reports: one main report and six national reports. As a result, the book promotes understanding of the capacity cooperation mechanism of Lancang-Mekong countries and provides a useful and essential reference point for staff in government departments, enterprises, universities and scientific research institutions, enabling them to fully understand the LMC mechanism and its significance.

Professor Yuyan Zhang is a Senior Fellow and Director of Institute of World Economics and Politics (IWEP), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Chief Expert of National Institute for Global Strategy, CASS. His main academic interests include institutional economics and international political economy. He authored Economic Development and the Choice of Institutions (1992), International Economic Politics(2008), The Sources of American Conduct(2015) and The Path of China’s Peaceful Development (2017), etc.

Dr. Hong Song, Deputy Director General, and Senior Fellow of Institute of American Studies (IAS), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Professor of Gradual School of CASS. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in economics in Nankai University, was a visiting scholar of Columbia University. He worked as a senior fellow in Institute of World Economics and Politics (IWEP) for more than 20 years, and moved to IAS in 2020.Professor Song is an Economist, his study focuses on trade, investment and development issues. A special concern is with the impacts of multinational enterprises on industrial development in developing countries, especially in China.
