《中国古代文学与文献研究》共四部分，一是古代文论研究，包括主题批评和文体批评关系研究、《诗品》中的诗歌批评、刘勰的文学史观、南朝乐府与宫体诗的关系、传统文论的特质及当代化的理论思考、传统文论的魅力及创新性阐释、两汉时期的文学批评模式以及《文选》诗以“类”相分的形成与影响等研究。二是古代文学研究，包括中国古代诗歌的句法理论研究、柳永的的诗词研究、古代登临行为的古典文学意义研究、宋代诗话研究等。三是古典文献研究，包括对《游赤松记》的归属研究、唐宋八大家缘起、吕祖谦与唐宋八大家关系以及对《招魂》的考辨、《后汉书》、《艺文类聚》等文献的研究等。四是古代戏曲研究，主要是对《今乐考证》的戏曲史价值和张栻的入桂与文学创作研究。
