The Concise Reader on Modern Chinese History tells the story of modern Chinese history, which is not only a history of humiliation, but also a history of the indomitable struggle of the Chinese people for national independence, national prosperity and strength. The so-called humiliation is mainly reflected in the “sinking” period of history, while the so-called struggle is mainly reflected in the “rising” period of history. This is not to say that there were no struggles in the “sinking” period of history; the Chinese people had many struggles in that period, but due to insufficient awakening, insufficient material power, and insufficient experience in struggle, the struggles of the Chinese people at that time were not enough to stop the “sinking” of Chinese society; in the “rising” period of history, the so-called humiliation was mainly reflected in the “sinking” period of history. In the “rising” period of history, not without humiliation, the Japanese imperialist aggression against China, even more serious than the damage caused by previous imperialist aggression to China, but because of the Chinese people's unprecedented national awakening and unprecedented hard work, Chinese society not only avoided continuing to “sink”, but also to fight for their own survival. “sinking”, but also won a complete victory in the war against aggression and laid the foundation for China's modernization.
