Phonetic Realization and Phonological Analysis of Focus in Standard Chinese
This book reveals the hierarchical differences and non-corresponding features of Mandarin stress by examining the phonological realization characteristics of different categories and different numbers of foci in Mandarin. Phonological theories (intonation phonology and preference theory) are employed to characterize the types of stress in Mandarin, and issues such as the relationship between focus and stress in Mandarin and the underlying reasons governing the distribution of stress are systematically elaborated and explained.
