2015年9月，中国社会科学院近代史研究所社会史研究中心与河北大学历史学院在华北古城——保定举办了以“华北城乡与近代区域社会”为主题的第六届中国近代社会史国际学术研讨会。本书为会议论文集结而成，从不同侧面探讨近代华北及区域史相关问题，并提出一个新的研究领域—京津冀区域社会史。

In September 2015, the Social History Research Center of the Institute of Modern History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the School of History of Hebei University held the 6th International Symposium on Modern Chinese Social History with the theme of "Urban and Rural Areas and Modern Regional Society in North China" in Baoding, an ancient city in North China. This book is a collection of conference papers, which discusses issues related to modern North China and regional history from different aspects, and proposes a new research field - Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional social history.
