本书是作者在其中央美术学院建筑学院的博士论文的基础上撰写而成，旨在以“现代性”概念阐述中国建筑现象的可能性。作者认为，启蒙现代性和审美现代性的划分可以用来解释现代中国建筑，纪念碑性与园林性作为建筑属性，分别代表了中国建筑的启蒙现代性与审美现代性。中国现代建筑的特点是整体性在个体性之上，以局部的审美现代性来补充主体框架的启蒙现代性。作者还梳理了中国现代建筑设计意识的发展与转变。
This book is based on the author's doctoral dissertation at the School of Architecture of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, aiming to illustrate the possibilities of Chinese architectural phenomena with the concept of "modernity". The author believes that the division between enlightenment modernity and aesthetic modernity can be used to explain modern Chinese architecture, and monumentality and gardenness as architectural attributes represent the enlightenment modernity and aesthetic modernity of Chinese architecture respectively. The characteristic of modern Chinese architecture is that the wholeness is above the individuality, and the enlightenment modernity of the main framework is supplemented by partial aesthetic modernity. The author also sorts out the development and transformation of China's modern architectural design consciousness.
