Modern China Reflected in the West: A Study of China Reporting by Harriet Abban, Chief Correspondent of The New York Times in China: 1927-1940
Hallett E. Abend was a key China correspondent for the New York Times in the 2030s, and his reporting constituted the key text for mainstream American journalism in the 2030s to shape and disseminate the image of modern China. By examining Aban's fifteen years of journalistic practice in China and his more than 1,000 China-related reporting works, this book shows how Aban and his media organization, The New York Times, have constructed a typical and historical image of modern China through their unique news discourse system, and reveal the political and cultural implications behind this media image.
