After more than two years of painstaking research, the ‘Green GDP Performance Assessment Research Group’ of the National Governance Research Institute of Huazhong University of Science and Technology has combed through domestic and international research results, created a reasonable and feasible green GDP performance assessment system and research algorithms, and developed relevant specialised software to conduct a comprehensive green GDP performance assessment of 17 cities and municipalities in Hubei Province, relying on the data publicly released by the relevant departments. cities in Hubei Province as an example to carry out a comprehensive assessment of green GDP performance, make a comprehensive ranking of their total GDP, per capita GDP, green GDP, per capita GDP and green development index in the capacity of a third party in an objective and perceptible way, and use a large number of analysed charts and data tables to objectively present the annual GDP, per capita GDP, green GDP, per capita green GDP, green development index of the 17 cities in Hubei Province from 2008 to 2014, and the annual green GDP and green development index of the cities in Hubei Province. GDP, green GDP, green GDP per capita, and green development index from 2008 to 2014, and puts forward reasonable and feasible countermeasure suggestions for their future development. The report advocates leading green development through green GDP performance assessment, and leading the modernisation of national governance with green development. The results of this report not only provide a clear premise and scientific reference system for Hubei's green development, but also provide the ideological theories, assessment systems and methodological principles that can be learnt from and promoted in China to create a road of green and rapid development. This report is the first local green development performance assessment report publicly released by a university think tank since China's exploration of green GDP theory and practice has been dormant for more than a decade.
