戏剧在外国文学中，特别在西方文学中，占据了极为重要的地位。虽然到了二十世纪，戏剧已经有走下坡路的趋势，但总体来说，戏剧在西方史上属于文学的精华，艺术的桂冠。新中国成立之后，国家对外国戏剧的翻译、演出和研究都非常重视。

《新中国外国戏剧的翻译与研究》力图以量化研究与质的评价相结合，总体的研究与个案的探讨相结合的方式，较为全面地展现外国戏剧在新中国的传播史。

Drama occupies an extremely important place in foreign literature, especially in Western literature. Although in the twentieth century, drama has tended to go downhill, on the whole, drama belongs to the essence of literature and the laurels of art in the history of the West. After the founding of New China, the state has attached great importance to the translation, performance and research of foreign plays.

Translation and Research on Foreign Drama in New China seeks to present a more comprehensive picture of the history of the spread of foreign drama in New China by combining quantitative research with qualitative evaluation, and general research with case studies.
