This book is one of the academic results of the author's long-term investigation and research on the Pendulum Festival.Using the theoretical perspectives of anthropology, ethnology and folklore, the book is an ethnographic "deep description" of the Pendulum Festival of Yaobai Dong Village in a long period of time and in a spatial and temporal space.Through an in-depth examination of the history and current situation of the Pendulum Festival, as well as its practical experience, successes and failures in the current changes and development, the book explores the way of modern changes of traditional minority festivals. In this book, the research concept of "cultural holism" is upheld, and the traditional festivals are placed in the mountainous environment on which they depend for their survival, which effectively avoids the drawbacks of only seeing the phenomena but not seeing the contexts in the previous festival research, jumps out of the previous research routine of salvaging, protecting or utilising, and abandons the practice of observing them in the mirror of the other. The research paradigm of only observing the external characteristics and symbolic structure of festivals in the mirror image of others has been abandoned, and the research paradigm of truly going to the field, returning to the festival itself, digging into the internal knowledge and viewpoints of the culture holders, and reevaluating the deeper significance of traditional festivals to the social life of mountainous ethnic groups has been adopted.
