A History of the Land System in the Song Dynasty is a scholarly work that systematically studies the land system in the Song Dynasty. Divided into five chapters, the book first analyzes the political and economic situation of the Five Dynasties Song and Yuan Dynasties, including the political pattern and the development of agricultural production in general. Next, it explores the pattern of land ownership in the Song dynasty, covering the land ownership system of governmental and private landlords, the way of operating governmental fields, the small land ownership system of homesteaders, and the transfer of land ownership. Chapter 3 focuses on the development of feudal tenancy in the Song dynasty, including tenancy contractual relationships, land rent patterns, land prices, and tenantry. The fourth chapter discusses the household and service system of the Song dynasty, covering the rural household register, household division, the two taxes, service, as well as the duotian, fangtian, and warping boundaries. The final chapter examines the feudal land system in relation to commodity money, such as cash crop cultivation and the commercialization of agricultural products. The book is also accompanied by memorial essays on relevant scholars.
