The construction of contemporary public morality in China requires a theoretical fusion between modern public rationality and indigenous Confucian resources. From this perspective, the construction of public morality needs to examine the social structure of public and private space and the moral requirements in this structure. From the former point of view, in the structure of "reason-feelings-righteousness-law", the spirit of Confucian ethics takes the public goodness of "empathy" as the basic layer, and the private sphere that pays attention to "feelings" and the public realm that pays attention to "righteousness" as the role layer, thus making a Confucian interpretation of the theoretical construction of social public and private space. From the latter point of view, the moral laws revealed by Confucianism constitute universal civic morality, and its practical activities in material culture and spiritual culture are manifested in various specific ethical requirements. The above discourse on public morality is also confirmed to a considerable extent in the social changes in the Confucian cultural circle in East Asia in modern times.
