The 70-year historical process of contemporary Chinese novels, if based on value construction and historical characteristics as the criteria, should be divided into three stages: "socialist period" (1949-1976), "socialist adjustment period" (1977-1991) and "post-socialist period" (1992-). The characteristic of this book is that the history of contemporary novel criticism stands out from the overall "big history", and puts all the weight of theoretical thinking and narrative on it. This is because the "history of novel criticism" is not "big history", although it is a part of big history, it can transcend history and become another mirror of history. The intention of this book is that although the planners of the whole history try to discipline the history of novel criticism with their own great strength, the history of criticism, while obeying the discipline, will also echo the reform message of the new trend in the gap between the great history, echo the richness of the novelist's inner world, participate in the whole process of contemporary Chinese fiction in a literary way, and leave its own valuable historical traces. It is precisely because of this observation that this book advocates putting the "history of novel criticism" above the "grand historical narrative", and shows the overall thinking of the "criticism circle" on the "history of fiction" through the separate narration and analysis of the different practices of the "novel criticism circle" activities in each period.
