本书包括先秦生命哲学与中国艺术生命论两大部分，二者紧密联系，而联系的钮结则是“先王乐教”与周公的礼乐教化。“乐”作为古代综合体艺术，是生命哲学论述的主要对象，这说明艺术是有生命的，艺术活动是人的生命活动的精神表现。全书共七章：第一章是春秋生命哲学原创论，产生于西周末年，形成于春秋时期。第二章论述战国时期原创论分流、衍变而被战国主要学派批判地继承、吸收和发展，成为儒、道、墨、杂等学派思想的重要组成部分。第三章论述中国艺术生命论产生的历史源流及艺术生命的本质表现。第四、五、六、七诸章以艺术生命为主导线索，从艺术的历史传统、创作、批评、教育等四个方面，论述中国艺术的民族风格及其特点，并指出了这些特点的价值及缺失之所在。

This book includes two major parts, the pre-Qin philosophy of life and the Chinese art theory of life, which are closely related, and the link between them is the "Xianwang Lejiao" and the ritual music education of the Duke of Zhou. 聂振斌，1937年生，辽宁盖州人。首都师范大学美育研究中心特聘研究员、中国社会科学院哲学研究所研究员。长期从事美学研究，主攻中国美学史及美育、审美文化研究。已出版多部学术专著，主要有《蔡元培及其美学思想》《蔡元培美学思想研究》《王国维美学思想研究》《中国近代美学思想史》《中国古代美育思想史纲》《儒学与艺术教育》《中国艺术精神的现代转化》《文化本体论与美学理论建构》。牵头集体合著有《艺术化生存》《思辨的想象——20世纪中国美学主题史》《艺术哲学与艺术教育》。
