2017年8月，中国社会科学院近代史研究所社会史研究中心与杭州师范大学民国浙江史研究中心在杭州举办了以“地方文献、区域社会与国家治理”为主题的第七届中国近代社会史国际学术研讨会。本书为会议论文集结而成，分“学术回顾”“地方治理与区域社会…‘新观念与社会演变”“传统社会与革命新生”四个专题，在延续“区域社会”研究的基础上，展开对“国家治理”这一新概念的讨论。

周东华，浙江杭州人，杭州师范大学人文学院历史系主任，民国浙江史研究中心教授。研究方向有基督教会与近代中国的教育史、社会公益史、医疗社会史等。出版专著《民国浙江基督教教育研究》。在《社会学研究》《近代史研究》等刊物上发表论文二十余篇，多篇为《新华文摘》全文转载。

赵晓阳:（主编）

赵晓阳，中国社会科学院近代史研究所研究员。出版专著《基督教青年会在中国：本土和现代的探索》《当代中国基督宗教史研究》《域外资源与晚清语言运动：以圣经中译本为中心》。主编中国近代思想家文库《吴耀宗卷》《赵紫宸卷》等六部论著。在《近代史研究》《世界宗教研究》《中共党史研究》《经济学动态》《清史研究》等刊物上发表论文七十余篇。
