Literary research is a relay undertaking, and so is the study of modern Chinese literature. This book involves a total of 19 first, second and third generation scholars who have made great achievements and have an extraordinary influence in the study of modern Chinese literature, who not only conducted in-depth research on their respective academic pathways, professional achievements and academic characteristics, but also summarized their academic ideas and explained their academic contributions in a timely manner from the aspects of research vision, mentality, concept and method. He also pays attention to the versions of scholars' works, scholars' diaries, letters, and memories of others, as well as the author's observations and perceptions in contact with scholars, focusing on making "sketches" of the "people" behind the "learning" research through "historical details". The detailed and specific historical information embodied and revealed in the articles in the book undoubtedly greatly enriched the memory connotation of modern Chinese literature. For the history of modern Chinese literature, its secrets are not displayed in works and research works, but often hidden in the life circumstances and life consciousness of the parties, and the way to literary research is to enter the academic career of the parties, feel their ideological pulse, and obtain a true understanding of literature and scholarship. The charm of literary research is to touch and open up these secrets around the subject. In this sense, as a phased achievement of the author's research on modern Chinese literature, this book not only has certain academic value, but may also become a mirror for retrieving and observing current literary history writing and even literary memory to a certain extent.
