Changes in the Novel in the Late Qing Dynasty: Chinese-Western Interaction and the Inner Transformation of Tradition: Centering on Liang Qichao” identifies Liang Qichao, an important figure of the period, and the novelists who centered on him as the focus of its examination, in an attempt to provide a holistic perspective on the development of the novel in the Late Qing Dynasty. The reason for choosing Liang Qichao as the central figure is that: firstly, Liang Qichao received strict orthodox cultural education in his early days, and he advocated and actively carried out theoretical research and creation of novels, which is a typical situation and an excellent reference for studying the changes of novels in the late Qing Dynasty; secondly, he was a central figure in the politics of the late Qing Dynasty, and he also had an important influence on the ideological and cultural circles, and it was he who first put forward the theory of revolution in novels in the late Qing Dynasty, which is conducive to the study of specific novels. The theory of revolution in the late Qing novel was first put forward by him, which is conducive to examining the change of the late Qing novel in a specific historical context; third, he himself was directly involved in the translation and creation of novels, and the first special journal for novels in the late Qing Dynasty, New Novels, was founded by him; fourth, his novelistic activities coincided with the most important stage of the change of the novel in the late Qing Dynasty, and although he basically ceased to take part in the novelistic activities after 1905, his influence still exists, and some novelists around him are still active in the novel. Although he basically ceased to participate in novel activities after 1905, his influence still existed and some novelists who had been active around him still played an important role in the period thereafter. Therefore, to study the changes of the late Qing novel with Liang Qichao as the center provides a good observation perspective for exploring the development and changes of the late Qing novel.
