本书搜罗宏富，自远古神话传说始，到晚清文学终，详尽考察了中国古代海洋小说从萌蘖、成形、成熟到最后完成的历史变迁，以及诸种变迁的内外因素。本书的要旨在于围绕命运与偶然、漂泊与危机、欲望与追求、退守与进取、今生与来世等命题，揭示中国古代海洋小说的叙事模式、艺术特质与民族风格，并在此基础上凸显古代中国人的思维形态、情感价值取向，特别是在自然认知上的观念嬗变，也即是借海洋的镜子映照人类精神不断创造更新的历史进程，寻求其对当代文化建设的启示意义。

From ancient myths and legends to late Qing Dynasty literature, this book examines in detail the historical changes of ancient Chinese marine novels from its inception, formation, maturity to final completion, as well as the internal and external factors of various changes. 李松岳，浙江舟山人，1960年生。1982年毕业于浙江师范大学中文系，现为浙江海洋大学教授。长期从事文学创作，研究方向为现当代文学、海洋文化，在《文学评论》《中国现代文学研究丛刊》《外国文学研究》等刊物发表学术论文数十篇，出版著作《逝去的古典》《内心的尺度》《独饮苍茫》《时光练习簿》《莲花开落是禅机》《存在的诗性敞开》《旧梦碎影录》等8部。
