From ancient myths and legends to late Qing Dynasty literature, this book examines in detail the historical changes of ancient Chinese marine novels from its inception, formation, maturity to final completion, as well as the internal and external factors of various changes. The main purpose of this book is to reveal the narrative mode, artistic characteristics and national style of ancient Chinese marine novels around the propositions of fate and accident, drift and crisis, desire and pursuit, retreat and enterprising, this life and the next life, and on this basis, highlight the thinking form and emotional value orientation of ancient Chinese, especially the conceptual transmutation in natural cognition, that is, to reflect the historical process of continuous creation and renewal of the human spirit through the mirror of the ocean, and seek its enlightenment significance for contemporary cultural construction.
