The "China Urban Competitiveness Report No.18"was led by researcher Ni Pengfei from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' Institute for Financial and Economic Strategy and jointly completed by nearly 100 urban competitiveness experts across the country. This report provides a detailed evaluation of the competitiveness of 291 Chinese cities, forming a comprehensive economic competitiveness report and a sub-item report on China's urban sustainable competitiveness, as well as a regional competitiveness report for 34 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions). This year's overall report focuses on China from the perspective of cities, moving towards urbanisation in the 14th Five-Year Plan period and the next 15 years. Using a new framework and assumptions, the report identifies four new drivers and dividends, four new patterns and trends, points out four new problems and challenges, and puts forward four new countermeasures and suggestions. The theme of the report is ‘Strong grass welcomes the storm: China's cities and property market’, which compares and studies the four external shocks that have affected China's real estate growth over the past 20 years or so and how they have been successfully dealt with. The report found that China's cities and property markets have not only withstood the test of the ‘gale’, but have also become stronger. In 2020, for the first time, the report on China's and global city competitiveness has been aligned in terms of indicator systems, research frameworks, data collection, and research methods. The report is of great reference significance for decision-making and research value for government departments at all levels, domestic and foreign enterprises, related research institutions, and the general public.
