本书是《中国神话母题W 编目》中的“W1.世界与自然物”的升级版。书中列举的中国创世神话母题（W1）数据目录由原来的3级母题升级为5级母题，母题数量由原来的4607个扩展为12583个。

根据此母题目录可以对中国创世神话的多种类型进行系统分析，可以建设中国创世神话数据库，也可以作为文学创作或相关传统文化数据库建设的参考。

王宪昭:（著）

王宪昭，1966年生，山东聊城人。中国社会科学院民族文学研究所研究员。中国古典文学硕士，民族文学博士，神话学出站博士后。主要从事中国各民族神话研究，在神话母题学方面着力较多。主持完成《中国少数民族口传文化母题研究》《中国少数民族神话共性研究》等多项国家社科基金项目及省部级重点科研项目，出版《中国民族神话母题研究》《中国少数民族人类起源神话研究》《中国神话母题W编目》《中国人类起源神话母题实例与索引》等14部专著，发表神话学论文近百篇。
