The history of human beings using animal skins is far away, in order to survive, protect from the cold, walk, and cover the body, as early as primitive society, they learned to use animal skins to protect their bodies and wrap their feet. From natural use to conscious use, it has undergone a long historical evolution. In modern times, China's modern leather industry has begun to germinate, but the turbulent situation has hindered the development of the industry. After the founding of New China, China's leather industry overcame difficulties such as the shortage of raw material skins and vigorously advocated the opening and peeling of pigskins, which greatly met the needs of the military, industry and people's lives. Especially after the reform and opening up, China's leather industry seized the opportunity, developed rapidly, and became a world-recognized leather production country, the output of leather, shoes, leather clothing, leather goods, fur and products and other main industries ranked first in the world, leather machinery, leather hardware, leather chemical and shoe materials and other supporting industries have also made great progress. The brilliant achievements of China's leather industry are the result of the long-term struggle of the whole industry, not only the arduous exploration of scientific and technological workers, but also the selfless dedication of ordinary workers, and inseparable from the operational decision-making of leaders at all levels, whether well-known or unknown, they have left many touching deeds worth remembering forever in the history of industry development. After entering the 21st century, China's leather industry has developed into a critical period of transformation and upgrading, facing both development opportunities and severe challenges. In this context, the China Leather Association listened to the voice of the industry and organized and planned the compilation of the "History of Chinese Leather". This book reviews and sorts out the development process of China's leather industry and summarizes the valuable experience of development, in order to discover and grasp the development law of the leather industry, which will benefit the future development of the industry.
